This week I’ve been very mindful of my anxiety and cortisol levels. The US election has been, well frankly, bonkers, hasn’t it? …and running a business during a Pandemic is not exactly great for a restful mind. Anxiety central this week for myself and a lot of people I know.
Cortisol, which comes with anxiety, is a natural human brain chemical…but when it’s heightened for too long, it can cause issues. Our immune system is hampered and our brains gets frazzled. So, having tricks to hand to reduce your anxiety and cortisol levels is a good thing.
Here’s two quick tips from me:
Super(wo)man Pose
Some of you might have read about power poses and how the Superman (or Superwoman!) pose can decrease your cortisol levels immediately. It’s often talked about to reduce anxiety when presenting or public speaking…but I’ve been using it to bring down my cortisol levels and anxiety if they ever build up just in everyday life.
Listen to this musical interlude
This article on Inc. is a quick (and really interesting) read about how Marconi Union worked with some sound therapists to create a music track which can bring down your heart rate and would have other specific neurological reactions.
I’d really recommend reading the article and then listening to or watching the track.
My mind wandered, but I did feel calmer, without actually realising, by the end.
Try these two tricks if you feel yourself getting a bit overwhelmed and let me know if they work for you.
